Question 45722: Frozen (quarter-pound) hamburger patties cost 5.80 for 12. How many can be purchased for $7.00? This is what I did:
5.80 divided by 12 = 48.3 meaning the patties are 48.3 cents each. Then, multipy 7.00 by 48.3 cents, which equals 33.81 (rounded 34) patties? Thank you for your time. I admire you for having a brain that can handle math.
Answer by Fermat(136) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You got it right for the cost of one pattie: 48.3 cents.
So one pattie is just under half a dollar.
And there are 14 half-dollars in $7.00
So your answer is going to be about 14.
Since one pattie is 48.3 cents, then we have to find out how many lots of 48.3 cents there are in 7 dollars.
7 dollars is 700 cents, and to find the number of 48.3's in 700 then divide 700 by 48.3.
700/48.3 = 14.5
So for $5.80, we can buy 14.5 patties.
However, since we can probably only buy whole patties, then the max nmumber we can buy is 14.
Ans: 14 patties
