You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Using elimination
4x + 2y = -14
-7x + y = 56
multiply the 2nd equation by -2
4x + 2y = -14
14x - 2y = -112
-----------------adding eliminates y, find x
18x = -126
x = %28-126%29%2F18
x = -7
:
Find y using the 1st equation
4(-7) + 2y = -14
-28 + 2y = -14
2y = -14 + 28
2y = 14
y = %2814%29%2F2
y = +7

;
Check solution in the 2nd equation
-7x + y = 56
-7(-7) + 7 = 56
+49 + 7 = 56; confirms our solutions
