Question 456648: A traffic light is red for 25 sec, yellow for 5 sec, and green for 55 sec. What is the probability that when you reach the light, " The Light Will Not Be Green." I need a tutor to check my solution and tell me if it is correct, if not PLEASE help me understand where I went wrong."
25 + 5 + = 85% (100%)
( 25 + 5)= 30 is the time not green
25/85= 0.353 then x100 to make a percentage
(25 +5) (25 +5 +55 ) 30 /85 = 6/17 35.29% not green
or another way I did was
25 + 5 + 55+ 85 sec.
55/85= 65% of the time
71 % chance it won't be red.
Very confused on this problem!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

total time = 85 sec. ( 25 + 5 + 55)
time when not green = 30 sec. ( 25 + 5)

the probability that when you reach the light, " The Light Will Not Be Green."
= 30/85
= 6/17

to find this probability in percentage multiply with 100 i.e 6/17 *100
= 35 % probability (approx)
