Question 454426: I need help solving the system listed below using the elimination method. I have a particulary hard time when I have to substitute the value of x in the equations.
5x + 5y = -7
7x - 3y = 11

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5x + 5y = -7
7x - 3y = 11
----------------
Multiply 1st equation by 7
Multiply 2nd equation by 5
-----
35x + 35y = -49
35x - 15y = 55
----
Subtract and solve for "y":
50y = -104
y = -52/25
-----
Solve for "x":
5x + 5(-52/25) = -7
5x - 52/5 = -35/5
---
5x = 17/5
---
x = 17/25
