You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the measure of two sides of a triangle are given.
if p is perimeter, and p=10x+5y,
find the measure of the third side if the other two sides are 3x+4y and 5x-y
:
Let the third side = c
The third side is the other two sides subtracted from the perimeter
:
c = (10x+5y) - (3x+4y) - (5x-y)
:
Remove the brackets, a minus changes the signs so we have:
c = 10x + 5y - 3x - 4y - 5x + y
:
Combine like terms
c = 10x - 3x - 5x + 5y - 4y + y
:
c = 2x + 2y is the 3rd side
