Question 453158: Two trains leave stations 456 miles apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One train travels at 105 miles per hour while the other travels at 85 miles per hour. How long will it take for the two trains to meet?
Do not do any rounding. Found 2 solutions by Klex, lwsshak3:Answer by Klex(2) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You could solve this a few different ways the most simple of wich would be to set up an equation with a variable (x) representing time, in hours, connected to the speeds and where the sum of the two speeds equals 456 so:
It would take 2 hours and 24 minutes for the trains to meet.

..
let x=distance 105 mph train traveled
(456-x)=distance 85 mph train traveled
Travel time = distance/speed (equal in both directions)
x/105=(456-x)/85
85x=105*456-105x
190x=105*456
x=105*456/190=252 miles
travel time=252/105=2.4 hrs
ans:
The two trains will meet in 2.4 hrs
