Raul flew his plane 200 miles against the wind in the same time it took him to fly 400 miles with the wind. If the speed of the wind was 50 miles per hour, what was the average speed of his plane? Answer by lwsshak3(11628) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Raul flew his plane 200 miles against the wind in the same time it took him to fly 400 miles with the wind. If the speed of the wind was 50 miles per hour, what was the average speed of his plane?
..
Let x=average speed of plane
Rate of speed with wind=(x+50)
Rate of speed against wind=(x-50)
Time of travel=distance/speed (equal in both directions)
200/(x-50)=400/(x+50)
200x+10000=400x-20000
200x=30000
x=150
ans:
The average speed of Raul's plane was 150 miles per hour
