A=s%5E2 Start with the area of a square formula.


sqrt%28A%29=s Take the square root of both sides (note: we're only taking the positive square root since a negative length doesn't make sense).


s=sqrt%28A%29 Flip the equation.


s=sqrt%2864%29 Plug in A=64.


s=8 Take the square root of 64 to get 8.


So if a square has an area of 64 square inches, then it has a side length of 8 inches.
