You can put this solution on YOUR website!
What is the equation for the line containing given point and parallel to the given line: (5,-4);
4x-3y=8
put in the slope/intercept form
-3y = -4x + 8
y has to be positive, multiply both sides by -1
3y = 4x - 8
y has to have coefficient of 1, divide both sides by 3
y = 4%2F3x - 8%2F3
Parallel lines have the same slope
Use the point/slope form to find the parallel line y - y1 = m(x-x1)
x1=5, y1=-4, m= 4%2F3
y - (-4) = 4%2F3(x - 5)
y + 4 = 4%2F3x - 20%2F3
y = 4%2F3x - 20%2F3 - 4
y = 4%2F3x - 20%2F3 - 12%2F3
y = 4%2F3x - 32%2F3
