The endpoints of one diagonal are (0,0) and (a,b). Using the distance formula, the measure of this diagonal is:
^2\ +\ (b\ -\ 0)^2}\ =\ \sqrt{a^2\ +\ b^2})
The endpoints of the other diagonal are (a,0) and (0,b). Using the distance formula you can show that the measure of this diagonal is identical to the other one. You can finish from here.
