You can put this solution on YOUR website!
jack's dad is 40 years old. Jack is fourteen years old. How old will each of them be when his dad is twice as old as jack?
-------
Equations:
D = 40
J = 14
---
Solve for "x"
(D+x) = 2(J+x)
(40+x) = 2(14+x)
40+x = 28+2x
x = 12 years
------
Dad will be 52
Jack will be 26

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
After x years Jack's age is going to be 14+x and his dad's 40+x.

Dad's age should be twice of Jack's so

40%2Bx=2%2814%2Bx%29 , multiply
40%2Bx=28%2B2x , subtract 28 on the both sides
12%2Bx=2x , subtract x on both sides
12=x

Check:
After 12 years Jack will be 14+12 = 26

Dad is going to be 40+12 = 52 which is twice 26.
