You can put this solution on YOUR website!
please help me solve this problem. jessie is 5 years older than ariane. four years from now, the sum of their age will be three times jessie's age 4 years ago. how old are they now?
--------
Equations:
j = a + 5
(j+4) + (a+4) = 3(j-4)
-----
Substitute for "j" and solve for "a":
---
(a+9) + a+4 = 3(a+1)
2a+13 = 3a+3
a = 10 yrs (Ariane's age now)
----
Solve for "j":
j = a + 5
j = 15 yrs (Jessie's age now)
