Question 448959: I need help with writing an equation for the following problem"
Pan is 14 and her dad is 37. In how many years will Pan's dad be twice an old as she will be?
I worked it the "old fashion" way--wrote down- 14 and 37, 15 and 38, 16 and 39, etc. I KNOW the answer is 9 years--but how do I write an equation to get that answer? Thank you, Linda

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Pan is 14 and her dad is 37. In how many years will Pan's dad be twice an old as she will be?
-------------
The easy way:
The difference is 23 (37-14)
When Pan is 23, he'll be 2x
-----------------
The hard way:
D - P = 23
D = P + 23
D + n = 2(P + n) n years from now
Sub for D
P + 23 + n = 2P + 2n
23 = n
