Hi,
Understanding "to get a by itself" in order to "solve" for a is great!
We get a by itself on one side of the equation by performing allowable
operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division) on both
sides of the equation.
x-4y = 8
x-8 = 4y |adding 4y and subtracting 8 from BOTH sides of the EQ
(x-8)/4 = y |dividing both sides of the EQ by 4
x/4 - 2 = y
3y-2x = 0
3y = 2x
y = (2/3)x
