Question 444889: chocolate nut mixes 10% chocolate and 50% chocolate, want 20 lbs with a 25% chocolate, how much of each do I need to make 20 lbs with 25% chocolate

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the number of lbs of the 10% mixture
Then 20 - x = the number of lbs of the 50% mixture
The mixture will contain 0.25*20 lbs of chocolate
The 10% mixture will add 0.1*x lbs of chocolate
The 50% mixture will add 0.5(20-x) lbs of chocolate
So we can write the following equation:
0.1x + 0.5(20-x) = 0.25*20 = 5
Solve for x:
-0.4x = 5 - 10
x = 12.5 lbs
Therefore the number of lbs of 50% mixture = 20 - 12.5 = 7.5
Ans: 12.5 lbs 10%, 7.5 lbs 50%
Check:
0.1*12.5 + 0.5*7.5 = 1.25 + 3.75 = 5
