using Pythagorean theorem we write the equation:x%5E2%2B%28x%2B8%29%5E2=40%5E2, setting
to zero and solving this quadratic equation:2x%5E2%2B16x-1536=0 or
x%5E2%2B8x-768=0,we get x=24.
Answer: The dimensions of the rectangle are 24cm, and ,24+8=32cm.
