You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let $x be the amount of inheritance Daniel receives.
Let $x-2000 be the amount of inheritance John receives.
Let $x-3000 be the amount of inheritance Philip received.
x+x-2000+x-3000=40000
3x-5000=40000
3x=40000+5000
3x=45000
x=45000/3
x=15000
x-2000=13000
x-3000=12000
Therefore, Daniel received $15 000 inheritance, John received $13 000 inheritance, and Philip received $12 000 inheritance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +j = John's share
Let d = Daniel's share
Let p = Philip's share
given:
(1) +j+%2B+d+%2B+p+=+40000+
(2) +j+=+d+-+2000+
(3) +d+=+p+%2B+3000+
-----------------
This is 3 equations and 3 unknowns,
so it's solvable
(3) +d+=+p+%2B+3000+
(3) +p+=+d+-+3000+
Substitute (2) and (3) in (1)
(1) +j+%2B+d+%2B+p+=+40000+
(1) +d+-+2000+%2B+d+%2B+d+-+3000+=+40000+
(1) +3d+-+5000+=+40000+
(1) +3d+=+45000+
(1) +d+=+15000+
and
(2) +j+=+d+-+2000+
(2) +j+=+15000+-+2000+
(2) +j+=+13000+
and
(3) +p+=+d+-+3000+
(3) +p+=+15000+-+3000+
(3) +p+=+12000+
$13,000 is John's share
$15,000 is Daniel's share
$12,000 is Philip's share
