You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have a rectangular floor. How do we find how many tiles are on this floor? Let's find the area.
5%2A8+=+40
So we have 40 tiles.
If we have $250 to spend for the entire job, then we have 250%2F40+=+6%2A+expr%281%2F4%29+=+6.25
Then we have $6.25 to spend per floor.
----------------------------
Check: 40 * 6.25 = 250
Hope this helps!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The area of the floor is (5 ft)(8 ft) = 40 sq ft.

Because Sam does not want to spend more than $250, we set up an inequality,

Thus, the largest amount per square foot Sam can spend is $6.25 per sq ft.
