Question 442574: hey,6ths grade is starting this Augst and im all for the learning but i got a problem as good as i do on average (strait A's 7 years(including kindergarten)but when it comes to those tests im a complete failer!!:( :( i dont know what happend in all subjects i was a great student but when i when into 4th and 5th grade tests just were hard and i would study and study but nothing and after a bit the words would bler and make no sence even if i prononced it right i tried to get a tuder but my parents would get letters saying that i was in gifted classes and they wouldnt lisen i asked my teachers for help nothing(sigh) i even ask my worst nightmare and well.... what do you think!!!!!!! :( whats the matter am i just a rere or is it somthing els??? please help before its too late!!!

Read up on test taking strategies. Or, experiment with different methods of learning (e.g. flashcards, audio/visual methods, repetition, etc.).

It sounds like the teachers have let you down in the early grades. You should not have that much trouble understanding. Ask to go to normal, rather than gifted classes in August, insist on it. See how you do. Those gifted classes, teachers often think, "these kids are smart, I won't have to explain things to them" and they get lazy. Have your parents pick some work books designed for summer at your grade level, insist that your parents help you with them. You will feel much better if you go into the 6th grade knowing what to expect.
