Question 44207:

A motorcycle daredevil is planning a stunt to perform at a county fair. A ramp must be built to give him a 20% grade, or slope. If the vertical height at the end of the ramp must be 11 ft to assure that the stunt is a success, what must be the length of the horizontal run?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
20% grade means the height of the ramp is 20% of the ramps horizontal length.
Let H=height and L=length of ramp.
H=0.2L
rearranging gives:
L= H/0.2 = 5H
L= 5 x 11 = 55
So the length of the horizontal run must be 55ft.

I hope this helps.
P.S. I am trying to start up my own homework help website. I would be extremely grateful if you would e-mail me some feedback on the help you received to adam.chapman@student.manchester.ac.uk
