Question 440977: One eighth of Al's coins are quarters and the rest are nickels. If the total value of the coins is $3.60, how many of each type of coin does he have?
So, I think I set this up like this:
q (quarters) and n (nickels)
q + n = 3.60
and then you need a second equation, but I'm just not sure how to make that...
is it something like:
1/8x + n = ???
Sorry, I'm completely lost.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
not completely, but pretty well

1/8 are quarters, so 7/8 are nickels ___ n = 7q

for the "value" equation ___ .25q + .05n = 3.60 ___ 5q + n = 72

substitution would work well here
