I worked this previously, and it's similar to parallel resistors, but 2 times that.
Avg = 2*30*40/(30+40) = 2400/70
= 240/7 mph
=~ 34.28 mph

It's always less than the avg of the 2 speeds, because more time is spent going at the slower speed.
