Question 44066: PLease help!!! determine algebraically whether the lines are parallel, perpendicular or neither. state the number of solutions.
y = 1/2x + 3
x - 2y = -6

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
So you have two lines
y+=+x%2F2+%2B+3 ..1
and
x+-+2y+=+-6 ..2
rearrange equation (..2) so that it is in the form "y=mx+c":
2y=x%2B6
y=x%2F2%2B3 ..3
Note that equations (..1) and (..3) are exactly the same!
This tells us that the two lines are the same. They both have the same gradient (1/2), and if you give x ANY value you want, both equations (..1) and (..2) will ALWAYS solve the same y value. There are infinite solutions!
I hope this helps
P.S. I am trying to start up my own homework help website. I would be extremely grateful if you would e-mail me some feedback on the help you received to adam.chapman@student.manchester.ac.uk
