Question 436983: An unidentified plane approaching the U.S. coast is sighted on radar and determined to be 122 miles away and heading straight for the coast at 600 miles per hour. Five minutes (1/12 hour) later, a U.S. jet, flying at 264 miles per hour, scrambles from the coastline to meet the plane. How far from the coast does the interceptor meet the plane?
I can't figure out how to set the problem up. :(

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The undefined plane for 1/12 hours travel 600%2A1%2F12=50miles.
The remain distance between them when the jet take of is:122-50=72 miles.
Let assume that planes met x miles from the coast line.
The time that jet need to travel x miles is x%2F264
The time that the unidentified plane need to travel 72-x miles is:
%2872-x%29%2F600, since these are equal we write the equation:
x%2F264=%2872-x%29%2F600, solve this equation:
x=22miles.
Answer:The jet met the plane 22 miles from coast line.
