Question 436507: What is X divided by Y?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
What is X divided by Y? Z. (by law of alphabeticality) Unless, of course it is a rainy, boring day like this one, in which case we also have to consider N as a first member of the homological sequence N -> O -> T -> -> A -> G -> A -> I -> N. Followed by a sigh.
But if you are at least remotely serious about this, and I see you put the question into the category of rational functions, consider this:
if X and Y are rational functions that is "any function[s] which can be written as the ratio of two polynomial functions. Neither the coefficients of the polynomials nor the values taken by the function[s] are necessarily rational." - Wikipedia
then X/Y is also a rational functions you are basically dividing two fractions which have both in denominator and nominator a polynomial. The result therefore has to be another fraction having the same property (write if you need more detail)
Also notice that any polynomial like x, or x%5E2-2%2Ax%2By%5E3 is a rational function since it can be written in the form (polynomial/1) and one is also considered a polynomial (x^0 if you like) and conversely if X/Y is a rational function then X and Y are also rational functions. (they are polynomials after all)
Hope it shed some light on the issue. (whether it be rational functions or unanswerable questions) :->
