I know you have an equation for #1, but what is it asking? What you wrote does not ask a question of some sort. If the book wanted you to *verify* that the equation was true, you would expand the left side using FOIL:

(x+5)(x+2) = x^2 + 2x + 5x + 10 = x^2 + 7x + 10 (^ denotes an exponent)
