y=x^2-2x+1    |Note the use of ^ (uppercase 6)

 x^2-2x+1 = 0

factoring

 (x-1)(x-1) = 0   y = (x-1)^2

 (x-1)= 0

 (x-1) = 0  x = 1 is the zero of this function
