You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Anita and Reginald both enjoy rollerblading as an afternoon activity. Anita can run a particular course called the Silver Comet Trail in 7 hours. Reginald is able to rollerblade the same course in 5 hours. If Reginald and Anita start at opposite ends of the trail and rollerblade towards each other, how much time will have passed when they meet? (Hint: Think about this problem as a "working together problem")
..
Like the hint says, solve it like a work problem:
Reginald's hourly rate to travel the entire trail=1/7
Anita's hourly rate to travel the entire trail=1/5
Let x=hours they would have traveled when they meet. (time it takes when working together to travel the entire trail)
sum of individual rates=rate when working together
1/7+1/5=1/x
LCD:35x
5x+7x=35
12x=35
x=35/12 hrs or 175 minutes
ans:
175 minutes will have passed when Reginald and Anita meet on the trail.
