Solving the equation by completing the square.

y^2 +2y = 0

 (y+1)^2 - 1 = 0

  (y+1)^2 = 1  |Taking the square root of both sides of the EQ

   y + 1 = ± 1

    y = -1 ± 1

  y = 0 and y = -2
