You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let g = girl's age
Let m = mother's age
:
Write an equation for each statement.
:
"A girl is 1/3 her mothers age."
g = 1%2F3m
:
"The differences in their ages is 20 years."
m - g = 20
From the 1st equation, replace g with 1%2F3m
m - 1%2F3m = 20
2%2F3m = 20
multiply both sides by 3, results:
2m = 3*20
2m = 60
m = 60%2F2
m = 30 is Mom's age
:
I'll let you find the girl's age
