Not necessarily square root. The inverse is taking the nth root, where n is the original exponent. For example, the inverse of y+=+x%5E3 is y+=+root%283%2C+x%29 and the inverse of y+=+x%5E%286.4%29 is root%286.4%2C+x%29.
