Add the equations
+2y+=+-4+
divide both sides by 2
+y+=+-2+
Now plug this result back into either (1) or (2)
(1) +-2+=+2x+-+6+
Add 6 to both sides
+4+=+2x+
Divide both sides by 2
+x+=+2+

The easiest way to solve this system is by adding equation (1) to equation (2).
The x terms cancel and we are left with:
2y = -4
Solving for y gives y = -2
