If there is no typo on the 1st EQ

  x + 3x = 5  Or x = 5/4

 -2x + y = 4

 -2(5/4) + y = 4

  -5/2 + y = 4

         y = 6 1/2 or 6.5

  -2.5 + 6.5 = 4
