You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Girl drives or bikes from her house to the park.
Her speed when driving is 36mph, and her speed when biking is 12mph.
If it takes her 1/2 hr less to drive, how long does it take her to get to the
park and how long is the park from her home?
:
Let d = distance to the park
:
Write a time equation, time = dist/speed
:
Bike time - drive time = .5 hr
d%2F12 - d%2F36 = .5
Multiply by 36, results:
3d - d = .5(36)
2d = 18
d = 18%2F2
d = 9 mi to the park
:
Find the times
9%2F12 = .75 hrs by bike
9%2F36 = .25 hrs by car
------------------------
diff: .5 hrs, confirms our solutions
