The first thing you always do when there's an exponent outside of parentheses is to distribute that square inside. That means that you multiply every number and variable inside the parentheses by that number.
So take them all out and square them.
(2)^2=4
(x^2)^2=x^4
(y^2)^2=y^4
Stick those back into your equation.
4x^4+y^4
That's it. You can't combine any more terms. Hope this helps =)
