Question 427584: Ok again I am stumped by this ; Write the slope-intercept equation for the line that passes through (-8, -11) and is perpendicular to -2x – 7y = -14
I tried this -2-8.37=10.37
-1-7.07=-8.07
=1.29
???????? Have I totally did this wrong?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-2x-7y=-14
Find the slope of this line
-7y=2x+14
Divide by -7
y=- 2/7 x-2
Compare this equation with y=mx+b
slope m =-0.29

The slope of a line perpendicular to the above line will be the negative reciprocal
m1*m2=-1
The slope of the required line will be 3.50 3.5 =

m= 3.50 ,point (-8,-11)
Find b by plugging the values of m & the point in
y=mx+b
-11=-28+ b
b=17
m=3.5
The required equation is y=3.5x +17

Ok again I am stumped by this ; Write the slope-intercept equation for the line that passes through (-8, -11) and is perpendicular to -2x – 7y = -14
..

-2x-7y=-14
convert to standard form, y=mx+b, m=slope and b=y-intercept
7y=-2x+14
y=(-2/7)x+2
slope =-2/7
..
slope of equation perpendicular to first equation is equal to its negative reciprocal=7/2
Equation:
y=mx+b
using point (-8,-11) to solve for b
-8=(7/2)(11)+b
-16=77+2b
-93=2b
b=93/2
Equation of line:
y=(7/2)x+93/2 (ans)
