Let x and (x+9) represent the number of boys anad girls respectively

Question states***

  x + (x+9) = 37

Solving for x

       2x = 28

        x = 14, the number of boys.  23 girls  (14+9)

CHECKING our Answer***

      14 + 23 = 37
