Question 423947: need equation to calculae how many people in each seat. There are nine seats, holding a total of 24 passengers. There are 2 different seat sizes.
We actually know the answer. It's 6 seats with 3 people and 3 seats with 2 people. What we want to know is how to set it up in an equation to solve using algebra.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y = 9
3x + 2y = 24
Letting x = number of 3-seaters, and
y = number of 2-seaters.
3x + 2(9-x) = 24
3x + 18 - 2x = 24
x = 6, and y = 3.
