Question 422599: Hi - I'm in seventh grade and this is my first time here. I'm having problems with a word problem. It is:
Jolene bought three bloused at one price and 2 blouses priced $3 below the others. The total cost was $91.50. Find the prices of the blouses.
I need to write an equation and then solve it. I tried setting it up as: 3b + (2b - 3) = 91.50. I got b= $18.90, but it doesn't seem to work out.
Thanks for helping.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

3b + 2(b - 3) = 91.50
=> 3b + 2b -6 = 91.50
=> 5b = 97.50
=> b = 97.50/5 = 19.50

so, prices are 19.50 and 16.50
