The quadratic formula is

x+=+%28-b+%2B-+sqrt%28+b%5E2-4%2Aa%2Ac+%29%29%2F%282%2Aa%29+

not this

cross%28x+=+-b+%2B+sqrt%28+b%5E2-4%2Aa%2Ac+%29%2F%282%2Aa%29%29+

The other tutor used this form too, and that's wrong because 
the -b term must also be on top of the fraction bar.  Also
there must be a double sign ±, not just +.

The first three steps should be

+x=%28-%28-12%29+%2B-+sqrt%28%28-12%29%5E2-4%286%29%281%29%29%29%2F2%286%29+
+x=%2812+%2B-+sqrt+%28144-24%29%29%2F12+ 
+x=%2812+%2B-+sqrt+%28120%29%29%2F12+

and then:

+x=%2812+%2B-+sqrt+%284%2A30%29%29%2F12+
+x=%2812+%2B-+2sqrt+%2830%29%29%2F12+
+x=%282%286+%2B-+sqrt+%2830%29%29%29%2F12+

Don't be confused you are doing very well. The roots of the equation are two:
x+=+12%2B-sqrt%28120%29%2F12
+x+=+6%2Bsqrt%2830%29%2F6 and
x+=+6-sqrt%2830%29%2F6
