Question 420382: Solve the following equation for x
x-4/x+6=x+5/x+2
I guess where I am getting hung up is on the simplifying step. I think I have it and then it's wrong, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Solve the following equation for x

(x - 4)/(x + 6) = (x + 5)/(x + 2)
(x - 4)(x + 2) = (x + 6)(x + 5) {cross-multiplied...it was a proportion}
x^2 - 2x - 8 = x^2 + 11x + 30 {used foil method}
-2x - 8 = 11x + 30 {subtracted x^2 from both sides}
-8 = 13x + 30 {added 2x to both sides}
13x = -38 {subtracted 30 from both sides}
x = -38/13 {divided both sides by 13}

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+-+4%2Fx+%2B+6+=+x+%2B+5%2Fx+%2B+2
Multiply both sides by x
+x%5E2+-+4+%2B+6x+=+x%5E2+%2B+5+%2B+2x+
Subtract x%5E2 from both sides
+-4+%2B+6x+=+5+%2B+2x+
Subtract 2x from both sides
+-4+%2B+4x+=+5+
Add 4 to both sides
+4x+=+9+
Divided both sides by 4
+x+=9%2F4+
