You can put this solution on YOUR website! Ryan is now three times as old as Sabrina. Eight years ago Ryan was five times that of Sabrina. Find there present ages.
.
Let x = Sabrina's age
then from "Ryan is now three times as old as Sabrina" we get
3x = Ryan's age
.
Our formula comes from:
"Eight years ago Ryan was five times that of Sabrina"
3x-8 = 5(x-8)
solving for x:
3x-8 = 5x-40
-8 = 2x-40
32 = 2x
16 years old = x (Sabrina's age)
.
Ryan's age:
3x = 3(16) = 48 years
