Question 419059: Hi just need some help to make sure I am doing this problem correctly.
Using the Euler's formula to answer this question, a polyhedron has 16 vertices and 17 faces. How many edges does it have.
I was thinking 33 because the Eulers formula is vertices = edges- faces +2
so would I go 16 - 29 + 17 = 4 29 + 4 = 33
Did I do this correct? :o)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Euler's formula states that:

V - E + F = 2

see the following reference:

http://www.math.osu.edu/~fiedorow/math655/Euler.html

You have:

V = 16
F = 17
E = ?????

V - E + F = 2 becomes:

16 - E + 17 = 2

Add E to both sides of this equation and subtract 2 from both sides of this equation to get:

16 + 17 - 2 = E

Combine like terms to get:

31 = E

Number of edges should be equal to 31.
