You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"the length of a rectangle is 5 cm less than 3 times its width.if the perimeter of the rectangle is 54 ,what is the length and width???"

x = width
3x - 5 = length {length is 5 less than 3 times width}

Perimeter of a rectangle = (2 x length) + (2 x width)}

2x + 2(3x - 5) = 54 {perimeter = 2(length) + 2(width)}
2x + 6x - 10 = 54 {used distributive property}
8x - 10 = 54 {combined like terms}
8x = 64 {added 10 to both sides}
x = 8 {divided both sides by 8}
3x - 5 = 19 {substituted 8, in for x, into 3x - 5}

width = 8cm and length = 19cm
