You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A farmer has cows and chickens. Juan counted 296 legs in the farmyard. If there
are 100 animals, how many are cows and how many are chickens.

296 legs is 148 pairs of legs. Every cow and every chicken has a pair of front
legs. There are 100 animals, so there are 100 pairs of front legs. So the
other 48 pairs of legs belong to cows, so there are 48 cows and 52 chickens.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A farmer has cows and chickens. Juan counted 296 legs in the farmyard. If there are 100 animals, how many are cows and how many are chickens
----
animal equation: w + h = 100
legs equation: 4w + 2h = 296
----
Multiply thru the 1st by 2 to get:
2w + 2h = 200
4w + 2h = 296
----
Subtract and solve for "w':
2w = 96
w = 48 (# of cows)
---
100-48 = 52 (# of chickens)
