Let x and (x+5) represent Michele's and Shelly's ages NOW respectively

Question states*** 4 yrs ago...

 (x-4) + [(x-4) +5] = 65

Solving for x

     2x = 68

      x = 34, Michele's age now.  Shelly is 39
