Question 41605: SAS Car Manufacturing estimates that its profit P in hundreds of dollars is P = -2x^2 + 20x -2 where x is the number of units produced in thousands. How many units must be produced to obtain maximum profit?
Thanks for any help to understand this. Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! P = -2x^2 + 20x -2 where x is the number of units produced in thousands. How many units must be produced to obtain maximum profit?
The equation is a quadratic with a=-2, b=20, c=-2
The maximum for this function is at x=-b/2a
-b/2a = -20/-4 = 5
5000 units must be produced to attain a maximum profit.
