Hi
Note: In order to 'use the words' and translate them into an algebraic Expression:
the important 1st Step is to let "x" represent the "unknown" amongst the words,
which is "a number" in these particular examples:
- One fifth the sum of 7 times 'a number' and 10 is: 1/5(7x+10)
- Three times 'a number' is divided by 7: 3x/7
- x is reduced by a factor of 12: (1,2,3,4,6 and 12 being the factors of 12)
x-1, x-2, x-3, x-4, x-6, x -12 are among the algebraic expressions described
- The sum of 'a number' and two thirds of its opposite is: x + 2/3(-x)
- The total of 'a number' and its reciprocal is: x + 1/x
