You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Go into your Mom's kitchen (or dining room, whatever). Open the cupboard where she keeps her good china.

What you see is a set of china. Look at the teacups. That is a set of teacups. The set of teacups is a subset of the set of china. The whole set of china is a subset of the set of china -- but the set of teacups is a proper subset of the set of china. The set of china is a proper subset of everything that goes on the dining room table when you have a big family holiday meal.

You should have a set of teacups, a set of saucers, a set of dinner plates, a set of salad plates, and a set of dessert plates, and perhaps a set of various serving dishes/platters/etc. The union of all of those sets is the whole set of china. Now in another cupboard, Mom keeps all of her everyday coffee cups. If you put the everyday coffee cups in a set with the good china teacups, you have a set of hot beverage cups. The intersection of the set of hot beverage cups and the set of china is the set of teacups.

Let's say that Mom got a brand new set of china. Since the kids have not yet had the chance to put their hands on any of the elements of the set of brand new china, the set of chipped pieces is the empty set. Two years from now, shortly after Thanksgiving, that probably won't be true any longer.

A two-dimensional Cartesian plane is a set. It is the set of all points designated by ordered pairs (x,y) such that x and y are both elements of the set of Real numbers. Symbolically:

I don't know how much more you want or need since you were to lazy to write out what it is that you don't "get" so I'm going to quit here. Ask a specific question if you want something more.
