Question 411928: the length of a rectangle is 3 cm less than four times its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 34 cm. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.
I have been out of school for quite some time so if you could help me break these type of problems down it would be a big help Answer by sudhanshu_kmr(1152) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let width = x cm then length = 4x-3
perimeter = 2(length + width) = 2(x + 4x -3) = 2(5x-3)
as, given
2(5x-3) = 34
=> 10x -6 = 34
=> 10x = 40
=> x = 40/10 = 4
length = 4*4-3 = 13
length = 13cm , width =4cm
